Wonder Dynamics is making the visual effects (VFX) process more accessible and affordable by developing AI and machine learning tools that allow content creators/filmmakers to produce VFX and CGI elements faster and at a significantly lower price point.
The online AI platform that allows filmmakers to easily produce films populated by CGI characters with the push of a button. There is no need for expensive or complex 3D software; all the artist needs is a camera. The company’s mission is to open access to CGI-heavy films and allow more voices to create visually big films at a lower price point.
Wonder Studio empowers content creators through a number of features:
- No need for expensive production machinery —incredibly, no MoCap suit or other specialized technology is required to create these visual effects. The typical performance capture system (seen in movies like Avatar and Planet of the Apes) requires actors to wear a MoCap outfit (short for “Motion Capture”) in order to drive the performance of a CG character.
- No need for heavy frame-by-frame VFX work — Instead, the AI examines footage shot with a single camera, picking up on a wide variety of details like the actors’ performances, the scene’s lighting and composition, the camera’s movement, and more. Then, it automatically animates, lights, and composes the CG character directly into the live-action scene.
- Adaptive to the existing post-production workflow — The system automates 80%–90% of the “objective,” frame-by-frame VFX work and leaves the artist with the remaining “subjective” work, which can be exported into the software they already use (such as #maya, #unrealengine, #blender, etc.).
In terms of 3D animation, Wonder Dynamics is set to revolutionize the industry. Its visual effects technology allows for the perfect integration of CGI with live-action filming by seamlessly swapping out actors for computer-generated ones. Robots, cartoon creatures, or even aliens might theoretically be used in place of real people in this application.
#wonderstudio Motion Capture technology is the secret to producing lifelike 3D characters. The program deduces the subject’s walking or running posture from the mapped skeleton and adjusts the 3D image’s skeleton accordingly. The character is removed from any distracting backgrounds and follows the camera, giving the impression that they are actually present. Everything is handled seamlessly and quickly in the background.
#wonderstudio is developed with the aim of enabling artists while yet respecting the established 3D workflow. With the help of AI, the system is able to follow the actor’s performance across multiple edits, adjusting the lighting and composing the CG character into the scene accordingly. Everything from the actor’s body movements to the lighting, compositing, camera movement, and face performance is analyzed and recorded. The only tools a filmmaker needs are a camera and an idea.
