This game has completely changed the landscape of virtual reality gaming
This article is for people who love to play games online and are fans of virtual reality gaming. Aashish Bhatnagar and I spent a lot of time playing this game recently did a deep dive into this game on our YouTube channel.
Stress Level Zero created and released BONELAB, a physics-based virtual reality experiment. It was created with the Unity engine and the in-house 1Marrow Interaction Engine, and it works with Meta Quest 2 and SteamVR.
Narrative is interesting even for those who aren’t fans of VR gaming
The story begins in the voidway, a mysterious dimension that looks like a void. It exists outside of time and space, while still manipulating everyone in very real way. As the player, you'll be a PolyBlank, which is an avatar you'll find at the beginning of the game. It's a simple avatar made for testing that shows the player model's bones.
You will be able to customize your physical proportions in a void mirror, and then you will be able to use the Avatar Dice to choose your peasant avatar. Once selected, the Void fades to black, and a noose appears.
You, as the avatar, tighten the noose around your neck as the world fades into Heaven’s Reach, a medieval village in Fantasy Land.
Imagine all this happening in VR , where you are immersed and feeling it like a real life event.
Back to the story: an angry mob of villagers and cultists surrounds the gallows, where you are to be hung. As the metal floor is levered away, revealing a large chasm beneath, you begin choking. In a flash of lightning, a dagger appears within reach, and the voice of Jimmy guides the Avatar throughout the campaign, eventually bringing them into the Void to join the ranks. Hosting the inter-dimensional radio station DeadFM, he is set to be the protagonist of the upcoming game of the same name} can be heard advertising the knife’s power.
You cut the noose with the knife and plummet into the chasm below. You awaken in a cave filled with corpses and debris. The avatar moves through abandoned dungeons and catacombs while collecting a lantern.
You start out with unfinished areas and come across abandoned buildings that the Fantasy Land developers left behind. You’ll eventually get into MythOS.
In messages left on radios tuned to the station 98.6 DeadFM along the route, Jimmy talks about how he has pushed the limits in his own life.
You enter an elevator that doesn’t work and are taken to the BONELAB.
Here, you look at the six modules and the game modes that go with them before going through a big airlock to MythOS City. After battling your way through omniprojectors and turrets, you discover Jimmy’s recording studio and meet him in person.
Jimmy expresses admiration and extends an invitation to join Lava Gang, a group of anarchists and modders seeking limitless creativity. He states that you still think like a player and, as such, must complete a test. He grants you an empty bodylog—a small device that attaches to your arm, and allows for instantaneous swapping of avatars and requests that you fill it with bodies.
Jimmy teleports the player to six simulations, where six avatars are generated. After which, Jimmy sends you to ascend back into Heaven’s Reach, and take revenge on the people who once tried to hang them.
